Douglas David Marengo
Loving father and brother, Douglas David Marengo, 58, 
of Whitefish, MT, and formerly of Polson, MT, quietly passed away on Wednesday, September 1, 2010 at home in his sleep from complications of diabetes.
Douglas was born in Polson on April 15, 1952 to Clarence “Speedy” and Irene Marengo. He graduated from Polson High School in 1971, where he, like his father, was a standout athlete in track and basketball. He married the love of his life, Dondi Wester, and together had two sons. Although they later divorced, they remained close friends throughout the years.
He was a member of the Confederated Salish and Kootenai Tribe where he was employed for many years in various capacities. He was a true entrepreneur who never knew a stranger and was known as the original “pawn star”. He was most noted for his kindness, generosity, humor, and free foot massages. He was proud of Polson and sought to improve it beauty and appeal. For years it was common for Douglas to take his sons along to help him improve the landscape along the highway in Polson.
Besides his mother and father, a son, Jesse, and a nephew, Joseph Ploymar, precede Douglas in death.
He is survived by two sons, Tanner Ross Marengo and Shannon Jesse Marengo; his siblings, Carole (Keith) Fredrickson, Lynda Frost, Sheila Garrison, Greg (Ellen) Marengo, Monty Marengo, Brad (Debbie) Marengo, Cyndie Marengo, Kevin (Peggy) Marengo, and Kim Marengo, as well as many aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At his request, no public services are planned and a private family memorial service was held. Douglas’ remains will be scattered in the Jocko where he spent much time camping and fishing. We will miss our dear father and brother and look forward to seeing him in the resurrection.

Dear Marengo family, I had the pleasure of being in Doug’s class I have so many great memories with Doug. He really was a clown at heart. He was such an avid sports fan that in Miss Specks class he would bring a small transister radio to school and stick the ear plug in to listen to the world series during class. He will be missed. To the Marengo family: Even knowing his condition, I am surprised. Doug has always been respectful, a gentleman to me in every way but a clown as well. I know his sleep will end with resurrection to a cleansed earth provided by Jehovah, where his illness and any life struggles will have passed.
I send Peace for your hearts and minds. To Tanner and Shannon, a special hug, you both were special to Doug, he told me that on one of his visits to the Hall. I look forward to his lovely smile again.

I am very sad to hear of Doug’s passing. He always had a great sense of humor and was a very generous person. I really enjoyed playing different sports with him. He tended to be a showboater but it was always in fun. He really was a kind and gentle soul. I will miss him. There will never be another Doug. Our prayer go out to his family.

Dear Morengo family: I’m so sorry to hear of Doug’s passing. From first hand experience, he could give any “pawn star” a run for their money, but he was much more than that. He was a friend who was always a joy and pleasure to be around. He was fun and always had a positive attitude toward everyone and everything. He will be greatly missed and I feel fortunate for having known him.
To all my cousins,
I am so sorry for the loss of Dougy. I am happy we saw him last Dec. although very ill in the hospital. Even in pain, he was concerned about us and even shared a little laugh. I credit Doug a lot for helping me stay with the truth as a teenager. There was a time in my life around Dougy that he only wanted to talk about the scriptures and things he was learning. That is what I will always remember about him. And how he talked about his children in the years to follow.
My thoughts and prayers are with all of you. I am sorry I am so far away. I look forward to many laughs and seeing that smile light up a room with my cousin and Aunty Irene very soon.

I’m (zac) trying to endure to the “end”, so I can once again play some fun and intense b-ball with Doug, in Jehovah God’s paradise on earth.
