Fern M. Goodman

     Fern Margurite Goodman, 91, of Polson, Mt., passed away Monday Sept. 28, 2009 at St. Patrick\’s Hospital in Missoula, Mt.

     Fern was born March 19, 1918 in Dillon Mt. to the late Iva and Andrew Downing.  She married James L. Steffes June 30, 1936 in Dillon, Mt. and had a daughter June Sloan of Polson, Mt.  She divorced and later married Jack W. Goodman (daughter Sherry Ruttenbur and husband Neil). 

     Fern loved to travel, country music and was always helping someone out.

     Fern, “Nana”, worshiped her grand children, great grandchildren and great great grandchildren.  Her survivors include daughters June Sloan of Polson Mt. and Sherry Ruttenbur (Neil) of Seeley Lake, Mt.; grandchildren, Karen Loewen (Roy) of Nine Mile, Mt., Greg Sloan of Spokane, Wash., Gordon Sloan of Polson, Mt., Lee Ruttenbur of Kalispell, Mt., and Christi Ruttenbur, now stationed in Iraq, 8 great grandchildren, 3 great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  Her parents, husband, Jack and a grandchild, Loren Ruttenbur, precede Fern in death.

     Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory in Polson is caring for Fern\’s family.  Graveside services will be October 5, 2009 at 11:00 am in Ronan MT with Rev. John Payne officiating.
