  1. Chuck Boyd says:

I haven’t seen John in about 60 years. John was a couple of years older when we went to school together. John always treated me well and was a straight shooter. A Good Man.

  2. Paul Miller says:

John is the name most all remember him by, BUT in our family —He was most always referred to as”Bull”. We had many happy hunting experiences together, be it deer, elk or chink hunting. When the going got tough, Bull would be doing his share to help, and more.

A kind and gentle man—unless you got his irr up. I remember in high school, Bull was playing football. A team came to town that had a very good running back, that was making a sieve out of Ronan’s defense. We all stood right on the sidelines then, and Bull came running by us. My brother yells at Bull,– “Can’t YOU stop that guy”? On the very next play, Bull tackled this runningback right on the sideline and drove him clear under the apposing teams bench. The fella never come back into the game.
Bull made a point of coming back by my brother——and says”How’s that”? He had a grin from ear to ear, and if you know John “Bull” Brooks, you can easly see that grin in you mind’s eye—–
I’m sorry, Bull, that I wasn’t there, to be with you on your passing———

I’m Poke and Joy Wickenhange’s daughter, Rhonda. I have very fond memories of the Books family from our time in Libby. I know that my parents considered John and Ellen the best of friends. I ran into Johnnie in Murphy, NC, where, to our surprise, we both live. The next time we met, John and Ellen were in town and I got to have lunch with them. I’m so sorry to hear that John has passed away. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. God bless. Rhonda

  7. Traci Brewster (Wickenhagen Family) says:

Ellen & Family, I am one of the Joy/Poke Wickenhagen children. We were all sad to read the news. Our parents enjoyed the time they spent with you and John. My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Love, Traci
