Laura Marie Raisl
Laura Marie Raisl, 91, of Polson, MT, passed away on Monday, July 19, 2010 at St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson.
Laura was born on March 17, 1919 in Wilbaux, MT, the daughter of Joe and Betty Novak. As she was growing up, Laura attended schools in the Bloomfield and Polson areas. She graduated from Polson High School in 1938.
On December 23, 1939, Laura married Leonard “Fuzzy” Raisl. They lived and farmed on the Raisl Brother’s Farm in Bloomfield, MT. After the death of her husband in 1975, Laura moved to Missoula to be closer to her daughter, Shirley, son-in-law Paul, and her four grandchildren, LeeAnn, Lynette, Douglas, and David. In 2008, Laura moved with her daughter and family to Polson.
Laura enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening, traveling, and many activities with her friends and family.
She is survived by her daughter, Shirley (Paul) Laisy of Polson; two granddaughters, LeeAnn (Russell) Schmelebeck and their children Tristan and Payden, of Manteca, CA, Lynette (Ted) Smith and children Caleb and Madison of Columbia Falls, MT; two grandsons, Douglas Laisy and children, Kase, Delany, and Remi of Tacoma, WA, and David Laisy of Salt Lake City, UT. Also surviving are a sister, Verna Staugh of Helena and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation for friends and family will be held on Sunday, July 25, 2010 from 6-8 PM at the Silvernale-Silha Funeral Home located at 221 N. Meade Ave., Glendive, MT. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Joseph Ponessa on Monday, July 26, 10:30 AM at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Glendive. Interment will follow at Dawson Memorial Cemetery, Glendive.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Polson Senior Citizens Center, 504 3rd Ave. E., Polson, MT 59860. I just heard about Aunt Laura. I am so sorry and I want you to know I am thinking of you guys. Please accept my condolences.
I remember how our family always dropped in on Fuzzy and Laura on our way home from our farm. We were there a lot and I loved it as they always had candy and jerky for treats and they had every animal imaginable running around the farm yard. I remember Fuzzy making me rope out of twine, all the hog/beef/duck/chicken/sheep butcherings, throwing coal in the furnace and exploring every inch of all the out buildings (especially the old schoolhouse). Them big old pictures of James and Marie hanging in the living room always fascinated me. And through it all I can never recall Aunt Laura not smiling. They were just great great people and much more than just my Aunt and Uncle.
I am sorry I won’t be able to make it to the funeral to convey my condolences in person and to give you guys a hug. I wish my job was more flexible. Please stop in whenever you are in the Laurel area.
