Margaret Ann (Howard) Vaughan, born September 9, 1936 died peacefully on November 21, 2009 at St. Luke’s Extended Care in Ronan, MT with family by her side.

Born in Grand Rapids, MI to Pat and Sally Howard (Flossie Cottingham) she graduated from South High School and, later, Michigan State University. She married Paul R. Vaughan on June 18, 1959; they had three sons. Margaret worked as a school teacher for a short time until the family moved to Mankato, MN where she lived until shortly after her divorce. She never remarried. She then lived in Escondido, CA, Fresno, CA and finally Montana.

Margaret was always fond of music and singing. She spent many years with Sweet Adeline in Mankato attending several regional competitions. Her love for music was surpassed perhaps only by her love for the Lord. Singing in choir and serving in ministry brought her great joy. Her most recent service included a mission trip to Romania to help build a church with Teen Challenge. She also served locally in her community as a Foster Grandparent helping children read at Glacier View Christian School. She was a member of Mission Valley United Methodist Church.

Margaret is preceded in death by her parents, Pat and Sally Howard; her brothers Gerry, Robert, and Jim Howard; and her sister Phyllis Davis. She is survived by her sisters Sue (Bruce) Bruscia, Sally Pasco, and Janet Darby; her sons Timothy (Robin), Peter, and David (Amy) Vaughan; her grandchildren Jessica, Ryan, Hannah, and Philip Vaughan and Rishley Cain, along with many nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held in the springtime of 2010. Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com.  The staff at Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson, considers it a privilege to care for Margaret’s family.

I knew Margaret through Polson United Methodist Church, and consider it a great pleasure to have been a friend of hers. We had many nice visits together, she brought Hannah and Philip out to our lake shore home near Big Arm, and she was kind to attend my mother’s memorial service this past summer. What a wonderful and dear lady! She had a very loving and caring heart, and touched a lot of lives. You are lifted up to God’s comfort and support as this sad time. I know you all have many good memories and are blessed by her life. SIncerely, Lynda Ashcraft

I’m sorry to hear of your Mother’s passing. It seems like it was only last week that we were all camping at the lake. Though I didn’t realize it at the time, your Mother made a positive lasting impression on my life. I have many fond memories of your Mother. May you find peace and strenght in the Lord.
