Mary Alice DeVries, 102, formerly of Polson, MT, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2010 at The Springs at Whitefish Assisted Living Community where she had currently been residing. A memorial service will be held on Sunday, August 1, 2010, 3:00 PM at Polson Community Church. Grogan Funeral Home and Crematory, Polson is assisting Mrs. DeVries’ family. www.groganfuneralhome.com.

She was my teacher at North Fork school. A very kind lady. She was missing part of one of her fingers and told us she got it caught in the mixer. I have been extra carefull with my mixer, to this day. I’m sure she will be missed.
Mrs. DeVries was my 5th, 6th and 7th grade teacher at the North Fork School in Paradise Valley east of Chinook. My 5th grade year we received new math books and I guess we learned to do math a new way, she spent a lot of time and was very dedicated to her teaching profession. I remember her white Volkswagon bug she drove to school, nobody else had one in our area. She also had a red blouse she wore to school that buttoned up the back and I always wondered how she got it buttoned. I remember her taking a vacation from school and attending the Mardi Gras in New Orleans and her report on her trip. Couldn’t have asked for a better teacher. My sincere sympathy to her family.
