Edwin Leroy
Dover, husband of Louella Marie Dover and eldest son of Rev. Edwin
and Carrie (Burnett) Dover, passed away Sunday, June 18, 2006 of
pancreatic cancer. Leroy was born in Great Falls, Montana on
November 15, 1931. He graduated from Chinook High School. While
attending college at Rocky Mountain College for his Bachelor’s of
Science degree in chemistry, Leroy met the love of his life, Louella
Hansen. They were married on August 31, 1951 and to this union was
born their sons Lewin (Jan), Lance (Rose), and Leslie (Gerry) and
daughter Lorrie (Donald) Maxwell. He received his Masters from
Stanford University in 1962. Leroy taught for 43 years and finished
his career teaching high school chemistry and driver’s training at
Billings West High School. Following his retirement, Leroy and
Louella made their home in Polson, Montana. Leroy’s delights
included sharing his love of Flathead Lake with his many family and
friends and anyone standing on the dock in need of a boat ride.
Leroy’s interest in genealogy led to his organizing of the 2003
Dover Rendezvous held at Buffalo, Montana where his grandparents
homesteaded. Family members from all over the United States came to
meet and connect.
Besides Leroy’s loving wife Louella and children, he is survived by
his siblings Carol (Robert) Lind, Larry Dover, David (Mildred)
Dover, and Carwin (Theone) Dover, his grandchildren Thomas, Garrett,
Anna, Quinn, and Joseph, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Leroy was preceded in death by his parents.
We wish to thank Dr. Gorman, Dr. Speckart, and the staffs at St.
Joseph Hospital in Polson and St. Patrick’s Hospital in Missoula for
their loving care of Leroy.
