Velma Isabelle Heyne, age 86 of Polson, passed away from natural causes on Sunday June 15, 2008 at the Heritage Place in Kalispell. Velma was born on October 10, 1921 to Harry and Fannie Fry at Loma, Colorado. She attended school in Colorado. After lettering in Basketball as a sophomore, she found the love of her life and pursued a new career as a wife and mother. She married Lawrence Heyne in 1937 at Pierce, Idaho. Velma was a cook at the Polson Senior Citizen Center and also worked at the Home Health Care until 1981. She also was a laundry attendant at the Port Polson Inn. She was active with Rebeccas, Odd Fellows, Eastern Star, and a member at the Polson Community Church. Velma enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, baking and spending time with her family and keeping chocolate chips in the fridge for her grand kids. Her parents, husband Lawrence, daughters Carolyne Thorp, and Laurie Kollmar preceded Velma in death. Her daughters Judy Standbrook of Polson, Harriet McIntosh (Ray) of Kalispell, Konnie Ellenwood (Jack) of Laramie, WY a brother Stephen (Lois) Fry survive Velma. She is also survived by her 15 grandchildren Kathy, Lance, Cindy, Larry, Todd, Cheryl, Kelly, Miles, Linda, Rick, Frank, Andrea, David, Jamie, and Tonia. Visitation will be held for Velma on Thursday June 19, 2008 from 9:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. at Grogan Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held on Friday June 20, 2008 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Miles Finch officiating. Interment will follow the services at Lakeview Cemetery. A reception will follow the services at Grogan Funeral Home.
