Phyllis “Peggy” Blass

Phyllis “Peggy” Blass, 87, died on Sunday, July 26, 2009 at Community Medical Center in Missoula surrounded by her loving family. She was born September 16, 1921 in Kalispell, a daughter of the late Finley and Wila MacDonald Null. She and her twin sister, Patty & older sister Dorothy attended Flathead High School. When World War II started Peggy enlisted in the WAVES and contributed her patriotism as a Yeoman until the war ended. She met her husband, Bill Blass during that time; they were married for 43 years until Bill’s passing in 1987. Peggy and Bill made homes in Illinois, Washington State, Guam and finally settled back in Montana at Flathead Lake in 1974. Peggy was a 5th generation Montanan. She shared a strong love of Flathead Lake with her long time companion and friend, Jim Doerfler. She is survived by her son Buz, daughter-in-law, Elaina, daughter Pam, son-in-law Fred, granddaughters Lindsey and Madison, grandson Brandon, sister Dorothy Fraker and nieces and nephews. She was a loving mother, grandma, friend and neighbor and will be missed by all that knew her. In lieu of flowers, please make a contribution in memory of Peggy to Hilda’s Room at Community Medical Center, Missoula, Montana. A memorial service for Peggy will be held on Thursday, July 30, 2009, 2:00 PM at First Presbyterian Church in Polson. Burial with military honors will follow in Lakeview Cemetery, Polson. We all share in the loss of Peggy but know that she is now at peace and watching over you from a better place. She was one of the hero’s of her generation and our nation will always be greatful to her for her service in its time of need.
