            flag2Ralph Anders Andersen, 88, of Ronan, MT, passed away on Monday, September 13, 2010, at St. Joseph Medical Center in Polson.

            Ralph was born on January 23, 1922 in Moline, IL, a son of the late Anders and Laura Anderson.

He attended the University of Illinois and earned his Bachelor’s of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering. He worked for American Air Filter in the Defense Product Division for eleven years and took night courses in engineering while employed there. Ralph was a US Air Force Veteran, holding various instructor positions across the ranks including aircraft mechanics, the Army specialized Training Program, and at Washington University. He also served in the South Pacific, Iwo Jima.

            Afterwards, Ralph worked for several engineering consulting companies for over thirty years and had invented several patents. He then moved to Western Montana and started his own engineering consulting company, Anderson Engineering, Inc. that had been in business for twenty-one years.

    Ralph and I met when I ran a consignment store in Polson and he was disposing of his sister’s estate. As he brought these treasures to sell at the store, he would have researched each item intently. What an interesting, kind, serious and engaging man who reveled in learning new things and in passing that knowledge on.

    My condolences to family and friends of this fine man.
