Robert Earl Maddy

Polson, Montana
March 4, 1933 - September 14, 2010

maddy-robert1flag3Robert Earl Maddy, 77, of Polson, MT left us for the loving arms of Jesus on Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at his home.

Bob was born on March 4, 1933 in Ohio, son of Walter and Josephine Maddy. As a young child, the family then moved to Santa Barbara, CA where Bob spent his childhood days.

After graduating from high school, he joined the US Navy, proudly serving his country. He served during the Korean War and continued in the service until he was honorably discharged. Afterwards, he moved to Rollins, MT and began his working years at Plum Creek.

It was on Flathead Lake in Polson, MT, where he would meet his future wife, Janet Michelotti. They were married in 1951 and remained so for 46 years until Janet’s passing in 2007. Together, they raised five children, four sons, one of which they lost in early infancy, and one daughter. Robert and Janet then moved to Seattle, still keeping there home in Polson, for 30 years where they raised their children. Bob went to work for Mannessmann Tally as an international sales manager. He traveled across the globe to many countries for his business, but his favorite place was always the family cabin on Flathead Lake.

After spending every summer, and numerous vacations on Flathead Lake, Bob finally retired in 1994 and moved back to Polson with his family, where he spent his retirement enjoying the lake. Bob and Janet spent the winters in Arizona and their summers on the lake allowed them to watch their 15 grandchildren run around the cabin and jump off the dock that Bob had hand-built many years before.

The last few years, Robert struggled with many health issues but he was blessed with a laidback personality and nothing ever seemed to be a problem for him.

His parents, his wife, Janet, and a son, Paul Fredrick Maddy, predecease him.

Those left with cherished memories are his children, Mario Maddy, Michael (Marlo) Maddy, Marcus (Tracey) Maddy, and Heidi (Jeff) Howell; a sister, Charlene (Gale) Warren; and his dear grandchildren, Heather, Nicholas, Julia, Sarah, Rachel, Alexis, Jordan, Lucca, Kolbi, Bryanna, Ashlee, Ellie, Taylor, Mia, and Julianne.

Graveside services with military honors will be held on Monday, September 20, 2010, 11:00 AM at Lakeview Cemetery, Polson. In lieu of flowers, Bob’s family has requested that memorials be made to a charitable organization of the family’s choosing in care of Grogan Funeral Home, 101 Sixth Ave. E., Polson, MT 59860.

Messages of condolence may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com. The staff of Grogan Funeral Home, Polson, considers it a privilege to care for Mr. Maddy’s family.

Reading about the passing of Bob brings back years and years of loving memories, especially as a teenage girl who knew him and his entire family so well. I still have the photo album he sent me while he was in the Navy.
So many stories, so many laughs through the years.
He missed Jan so much but he has joined her, Mama Jo and Dad Maddy for all eternity. What more can you ask.
Our sympathy and love to his grandkids, Charline & Gale, Cindy and Tim.

We are with you in spirit,
    Marlene (Peters) Petersen & Larry

  6. Dayle and Doreen Ratzburg says:

    Dear Maddy Family,

We were so saddened to hear about your Dad’s passing. I know you will miss him so much, but you have wonderful memories of such a great life with him. I just attended a funeral today for a friend , and an Indian man gave a wonderful tribute at the conclusion of the service. He said that he was taught that we shouldn’t weep for our losses, but celebrate the person we have been so fortunate to share with our Creator. Now your Dad is with our creator and we should be so happy that we had such a remarkable person to bless our lives. But tears also help us heal, so if you must shed a few, that is OK, too. I wish we could be there on Monday for the service, but we are at the farm, finishing up some fall work. Our love to all of you!
    Dayle and Doreen
