            Former Fort Howard resident and retired VA worker, Sheridan (Butch) Henderson died on Thursday, July 2, 2009 in Ronan, Montana at the age of 95. Sherd was born December 28, 1913 in Punxsutawney, PA to Wilbert Henderson and Elva Parkhill Henderson. He was raised by his maternal grandparents Hugh and Emma Parkhill. As a child he attended St. Cosmas and Damian School in Punxsutawney through the eighth grade.

            On June 22, 1941 he married Olive Ecelbarger from Big Run, PA and from this union had identical twin sons Sheridan Hugh and Richard Dean born November 20, 1942.

            He was drafted into the Army in 1944 and spent most of his time in the Philippines during World War II.

            He learned the butcher trade in a small store in Punxsutawney and later got a job working at he Fort Howard VA Hospital in Maryland in 1946 where he retired after 30 years of service.

            Sherd and Olive lived in Fort Howard, Maryland and enjoyed a summer residence in Indian River Inlet, Delaware. They moved to Polson, Montana in 1983 where Sherd enjoyed helping local butchers in his spare time and continuing his love of shopping and visiting with friends.

            Sherd was a member on the American Legion in Polson, Montana and a lifetime member of the Wells McComas Post 2678 VFW in Edgemere, Maryland.

            His wife of 65 years Olive, brother Wilbert Henderson and sister Yvonne Straitiff preceded him in death. He is survived by sons Dean and Linda Henderson of Fort Howard and Hugh and Susan Henderson of Polson, Montana. He is also survived by grandchildren Rick and Stacie Henderson, Ronald and Paulinea Henderson, Tammy and Michael Chaney from Maryland and from Montana, Carl and Stefanie Nordberg, Jack and Kris Nordberg, and Jason and Jennifer Nordberg and nine great-grandchildren.

            A very special thank you to Lily and George at Lily of the Valley for the wonderful care and love they gave Sheridan these past 3 years. The family really appreciates all that you did.

            A memorial service will be held Wednesday July 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Grogan Funeral Home. Messages of condolences may be sent to the family online at www.groganfuneralhome.com. Arrangements are by Grogan Funeral Home, Polson MT.
